Mount Vernon

The virtual field trip to Mount Vernon was absolutely outstanding, the overview feels like you are actually visiting this place in person. The main parts of the virtual field trip consists of the mansion, outbuildings, gardens and landscapes, distillery and gristmill, and the library.

The West Front

The West Front is the first part of the field trip that is introduced. It is designed to greet and impress visitors, who could see it from a distance as they enter the west gate. This is an amazing view of the mansion, and is the first thing people will see when visiting Mount Vernon.

All of the rooms and passage ways that I have learned about through this field trip were extremely important to the family and show a lot of meaning about how they made use of their space.

Outbuildings

The outbuildings are buildings that needed their own space, they are places that hold and produce things. Washington had access to all of these buildings and each of them were pretty close to the mansion where he lived.

Gardens & Landscapes

All of the gardens and landscapes were outside areas that Washington had created over the course of years.

Distillery & Gristmill

The Gristmill was where Washington produced flour for export and cornmeal for his estate. Then, Washington built a distillery that quickly became one of the largest in America at its time.

Library

The library is very beautiful, it has a limestone and stucco finish entrance. The rooms and halls in the library represent strongly of George Washington. The Reception Hall has a unique curved stone wall that is carved with the titles of books owned by Washington.
