Paradise Corner

I found a show called Paradise Corner on YouTube. I watched the first episode and used English subtitles because of the Russian language in the show. The main character, Vera, found herself a new job in a mansion, however, her real job was looking for a lost friend who once worked there.

While watching Paradise Corner, I found that there were similarities and differences between Russian and American culture. The clothing of the characters in the very beginning do not seem so different from America. While watching, I noticed that they were traveling by trains and taxis, which isn’t as common where I am from. In Paradise Corner, their pancakes looked very different from the pancakes we know. I thought it was interesting when Vera was told that everyone knows everyone, because in bigger towns there are many people we do not know.

The weather seemed nice, almost like the spring we are used to in our country because of their lack of jackets. In Paradise Corner, each character seemed to value working for what they have. Vera seemed to really want a job and valued the money she would receive. I also noticed that money is called something different in Russia, it is referred to as Rubles. Once Vera arrived at Paradise Corner, it seemed to be very high class, the houses seemed very nice and expensive.
