Sakura Quest

For this week’s blog post, I watched an episode of Sakura Quest. Sakura Quest is a Japanese Anime. It follows the story of five girls who work in tourism in the small town of Manoyama. Manoyama is a real place in Japan, filled with farms and mountains.

The main character starts out in the busy city of Tokoyo. The streets are filled with people walking, using their phones, and a bunch of lights and signs. There are skyscrapers, resteraunts, and more.

The first scene is of the main character interviewing for a job. They are asking similar questions like they do when on a job interview in America. For example, they asked her what was an important time in her life that changes her morals or beliefs. While at the interview, she was wearing a blazer and a skirt. She was dressed professionally, which is something people do when they go for a job interview in America. After the interview, she takes the subway home.

Her parents are upset with her because they want her to come home and do housework. Most of the women in this anime are seen cleaning or cooking. It is expected that women would do the house chores while the men have a career. Our main character is breaking these gender roles by following a career opportunity to Manoyama. This differs from women’s roles in America because equality is important here. Both men and women take part in doing household chores and having careers.

In the anime, all of the characters ate with chopsticks. There were eggs, rice, toast with fruit on it, milk, and juice. This is similar to stuff we eat in America, except we use a fork and knife instead of chopsticks. Another thing in common with this anime is that the main character uses a lot of public transportation. We have the same transportation in America, such as busses, subways, and trains. There was also cars but the main character never rides in one in the episode I watched.
