World’s Greatest Lesson: End World Hunger

The goal is to end hunger and promote a sustainable place of living by achieving food security and nutritional improvements.

There has been an increase of people suffering from the uncertainty of if they will be able to provide food for their families since 2015, and now due to the pandemic, there are still millions of malnourished children.

This is a report of the most recent estimates of the extent of world hunger by analyses the costs and affordability of healthy diets around the world, by different regions and their level of development.

It provides information about if the world is on track to achieve zero hunger by 2030, and they have reported some of these changes:

What’s new?

  • Higher level of accuracy of the hunger estimates thanks to the availability of fresh data, including new population figures, new food balance sheets and updated household survey data for a range of populous countries, including China;
  • Projections of what the number of undernourished people and several nutrition indicators may look like by 2030 under a continuation of recent trends. 
  • Preliminary assessment of COVID-19’s impact on food security, based on the recent global economic outlooks

Local Subaru Dealers are also doing their part to help fight against hunger by providing 100 million meals to Feeding America

Thomas J. Doll, President and CEO, Subaru of America, Inc. said “As we continue to weather these unprecedented times together, we hope our contribution to Feeding America ensures the most vulnerable members of our communities are fed and cared for.”

The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank is a member of Feeding America and they have reported they are seeing a higher demand than ever for food assistance. They are seeing 40% more than last year.

The Subaru franchise, with its 633 retailers nationwide, will work with Feeding America to disburse the donation to the organization’s 199 food banks across the U.S. To ensure that food banks with the highest need are served, Subaru will allocate 20% of the donation to national food programs and food banks with the highest food insecurity rates and child food insecurity rates.
