Climate Change

There are seventeen Global Goals that we can accomplish before 2030. If you want to check out all seventeen click here. For this blog, I chose to focus on climate change. According to the United Nations, 2019 was the second warmest year on record and global temperatures are expected to increase 37.76°F by the year 2100. Climate change is the reason for many weather disasters. For example, floods, massive wildfires, hurricanes, and droughts are due to climate change, and these disasters affected more than thirty-nine million people in 2018. There are many ways that we can work together to change our environment.

The United Nations website lists some targets about how to eliminate climate change. These targets include:

  • Increase resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related dangers and natural disasters in all countries.
  • Integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies, and planning.
  • Promote education, awareness-raising, and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction, and early warning.
  • Implement the commitment undertaken by developed-country parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to a goal of mobilizing jointly $100 billion annually by 2020 from all sources to address the needs of developing countries in the context of meaningful mitigation actions and transparency on implementation and fully operationalize the Green Climate Fund through its capitalization as soon as possible.
  • Promote devices for increasing capacity for effective climate change-related planning and management in the least developed countries and small island developing States, including focusing on women, youth, and local and marginalized communities and acknowledging that the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is the primary international, intergovernmental forum for negotiating the global response to climate change.

Due to covid-19, air quality has improved as a result of travel bans. However, this is only temporary and we still need to do more work. In order to make these changes by 2030, our world needs to come together and take action to repair our environment. A lot of people don’t see how drastic climate change really is. Do you want to help? All you have to do is share information about this with others. It’s important to start recycling, planting, and campaigning. If the world can come together to make these changes, we can do so by the year 2030. If we continue treating our environment the way we are now, it’s going to continue to get worse. We can start by making a change right now! If you have time, share some ideas with others about how we can start acting on fixing our environment. The more educated people are on this topic allows more people to act towards making a change.
