Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality

In 2015 the United Nations Member States the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development Goals. This agenda is a guideline and list of goals that are important to sustain our development. There are a total of seventeen goals, one of which being gender equality.

What is the Gender Equality Goal?

The gender equality goal is to end up with all genders having equal rights, responsibilities, and opportunities. Often times people are discriminated because of their gender and are told what they can and can not do because of their gender. The gender equality goal is to meet in a place where everyone is equal and there will be no more discrimination based on someones gender. How people are meeting the goal of Gender Equality?

People are meeting the goal of gender equality by creating awareness and ending the discrimination in the workplace. This goal might take a lot of time and effort to reach since there are so many people who are either not aware that this is a huge issue or people who think this issue is okay and that all genders should not be treated as equals. This past election in 2020 was a huge step for women. We now have our first ever female vice president. This is so inspiring because it shows that women can do just as much as men and it is setting a great example for young girls who may want to be vice president some day.
