Beyond the Fences of Auschwitz

This week I took a virtual tour to Auschwitz to take a look at the concentration camps. I decided to go on a field trip here because while I have learned about Auschwitz my whole life, I could never really picture what the place truly looked like. All the photo that would go along with history lessons were in black and white and it would be impossible for my to imagine what these people were going through. 360cities provides a panorama of Auschwitz with a virtual guide explaining the scene.

Because of this virtual field trip I was able to learn more about Auschwitz then I had known before. For starters, I did not know that there are three parts that make up the camp. They now serve as museums and memorials for the concentration camps and are owned by Poland. While it is bright in the 360 view of the place, I can easily imagine that back in 1940 the place was dark and a horrific place to be. I am glad I came across the virtual tour, it opened my eyes and gave me a visual of the tragic events that happened back then.
