Virtual Trip to Amsterdam, Netherlands

I took a trip to Amsterdam in the Netherlands to visit Anne Frank’s house. The amazing thing is, I did not even have to leave my couch! I took a virtual field trip but it was so interactive and felt like I was actually there.

The tour was a virtual reality place, so it looked like a video game. I was able to go into each room and look around. It was interactive because you can press on icons and it takes you to a video to watch or something to read. It reminded me of going to a real exhibit because there will normally be some audio and a lot of reading.

In the tour, I saw so many things and learned more about Anne Frank and her Annex experience. I saw where Anne Frank slept and the desk she wrote the diary on. I always assumed that the annex was one floor, but it was actually multiple small rooms. I also learned that Anne Frank dated the boy she was stuck in the annex with (Peter Van Pel) and had her first kiss with him. It was extremely cool to see the rooms and to put into perspective what Anne Frank writes about in her diary.

I have always had an interest in history and the holocaust. Being able to check out this historical sight without leaving my home was amazing. I would definitely recommend it to others. As a future educator, taking virtual field trips would be extremely beneficial and a fun alternative to basic teaching.

Would you take a virtual field trip in your classroom or in your free time?
