Inclusive and Immersive Education with Microsoft Toolkit

As mentioned in chapter 7, Microsoft’s mission statement is, “to empower every person and organization on the planet to achieve more.” Microsoft’s intentions to help everyone achieve and accomplish their goals are made clear with the tools they provide for educators and students. Microsoft’s Toolkit for educators provides many features that allow for inclusivity in the classroom.

Immersive Reader, a now embedded component to Microsoft applications, allows for adjusting or enabling capabilities of text, including changing font, text size, spacing, text or background color, highlighting, line focus, syllabication, translations, and a pop-up dictionary. These abilities are a game changer for students who may be struggling with pronunciation, being hard of hearing, and a number of other issues. These adjustments being made available, as well as being completely accessible to everyone because it is free makes Immersive Reader an extremely necessary tool for inclusivity in the classroom.

Another example of this is Microsoft Translator, which provides translations and/or captions for audio. I myself use captions whenever I can as I may miss low-leveled audio at times. For students, especially those hard of hearing, captions make a world of a difference in learning.
