GlobalSchoolNet.org is true to it’s slogan- “Linking Kids Around the World!” Its mission is to combine all levels of education and technology to help strengthen relationships within communities and benefit humanity as a whole. The website’s programs unites teachers and students all around the world to complete projects that develop academic skills, along with character skills such as teamwork, collaboration, responsibility, and preparedness.

One of the programs I really enjoyed reading about was US-Russia Education and Youth Opening Doors to Collaboration. This allowed students in both countries to collaboratively solve or prevent global issues through student exchanges, seminars, and conferences. Putting this in to perspective of using it in my future classroom, I would have the students start off by writing to one another via email. After the students became comfortable with their virtual pen-pals, I would arrange a video conference with the other teacher. From there students would be able to share with both classes what they and their pen-pal have discussed thus far, and would arrange for them to have private one-on-one calls as well.

This is a great tool for today’s youth. Connecting them with other students around the world and making them aware of their education system and day to day lives is a great way to expand our student’s mindsets. Technology is evolving every single day, we need to take advantage of it especially in the classroom.
