Proven benefits of Skype for a classroom

Growing up using Skype as a way to talk to friends truly took my breath away from all the ways it can be used in a classroom setting. Originally I am from a small and rural town in North Jersey and I believe Skype could have been used back then in the ways it is today to give students a more well-rounded education.

Just to make geographical connections with other students across the world, to normalize places in the world talked about but never visited. Such a simple thing to communicate with fellow students across the world and get more information about their culture can prove extremely positive towards the students learning success.

To me how this simple communication works makes complete sense, it is easier for the students to learn about things when it’s learning from someone first hand who lives in the culture. I always struggled learning about different places in the world because I never felt like I truly understood the information or could make any connection to it.

It is hard to understand specific things about any culture if it isn’t the one you grew up knowing. Skype makes it easier for students to grasp the idea that people live in these areas we learn about and it is a gift for us to be able to communicate with someone all the way across the world without leaving our seats.

I’ll always say this, but it is groundbreaking the things technology has done for the classroom. Skype normalizes the world lets students see there are other students across the world just the same as them. In this video, the students in Kenya made the students at Westridge Middle School realize that there are steps to be made to better the universe like the students and Kenya have been doing. Skype gave them the opportunity to learn about Kenya and how the students at Mahiga Hope High School learn and go about day-to-day life.

Skype is forever changing the lives of millions each day. All these opportunities Skype has given people just make them think and question more. Skype holds the key to open the lock to a forever fun and engaging learning experience.

    Hi!
I really enjoyed your blog post and totally agree. Skype can be extremely useful in the classroom, as we have learned this past year using Zoom. There have been concerts through Zoom, classes, and many other events. Especially after this year, we can now see how useful and helpful this tool can be in the classroom, even after we get back to a normal lifestyle.
