Bilingual Kidspot is a online blog that provides information and resources for raising bilingual children. Chontelle Bonfiglio is the founder of Bilingual Kidspot. Bonfiglio is an educator and mother of two bilingual children. She created Bilingual Kidspot to encourage other parents to raise their children bilingual. In her blog she gives a detailed explanation of everything that relates to raising a bilingual child.

Under the Get Started tab, Bonfiglio explains the benefits of being bilingual and raising children to speak more than one language. You can find links to tips, strategies, and myths on bilingual raising. Under the Language Resources tab, there are free lessons for parents that wish to teach their children Spanish, Chinese Mandarin, and English. The lessons expose kids to each language with images, videos and explanations of grammar rules. The lessons allow kids to remain engaged with content and parents can follow along in the learning process. There are additional resources under the lessons provided by Bonfiglio. Resources include other videos, free books and links to other language websites.

I choose to research and blog about Bilingual Kidspot because it is beneficial for children to be fluent in more than one language. Children have a higher chance of success in their future careers if they speak more than one language. I believe one major problem with American education systems is lack of emphasis of children learning multiple languages at a young age. I read once that many of Germany’s students are fluent in three languages by the completion of high school. Being bilingual or multilingual is going to continue to be important in the era of globalization. American parents and education systems need to heavily support young students in learning and mastering multiple languages. By doing so, our students will be more prepared for the integrated world they will live and work in.

Bilingual Kidspot is very effective at educating parents on bilingual raising. Bonfiglio’s blog not only has helpful resources and information regarding bilingual raising. It also has information on speech and language disorders along with lists of books that cover a range of genres. It is a great center for children’s education. I could use this resource in a number a way in my classroom. First, it is great source for me to learn another language if I have students that speak another language. It can be uncomfortable and difficult for students and teachers to interact when there is a language barrier between them. Second, I can incorporate words and phrases from other languages in my lesson plans that exposes my students to other languages. I recall my kindergarten teacher doing this when I was younger. It is a good way for students to learn the curriculum content in different ways, so they are more well-rounded students.
