Webinars: Discussions on the Tools and Methods of Archivist

Discussion of The Academic Archivist Article that I found.

As a result of the global pandemic limiting in-person conferencing, archivist have resorted to an online version of conferencing over Zoom. Certain aspects and topics of the profession were discussed in these various webinars. Below is each Month’s Webinar. They have a general format of having the speaker is on camera in the top-right corner while they share screen a PowerPoint presentation. The speakers used the PowerPoints as visual aids to the topics that they were discussing.

Here are the specific webinars linked with a super-brief summary.

March: Collecting the Present in University Archives

  • Hosted by two Archivist. One is from University of Illinois Archives and the other is from University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana
  • Discusses the process and background of collecting new artifacts in the Digital Age
    • Photos, Videos are such videos
    • Rights to access archives

April: Those Were the Days: Making College and University Milestones Matter Today

  • Hosted by two archivist at Illinois State University and Fashion Institute of Technology-State University of New York.
  • Discusses the background and use of archives as relating to institution specific documents.
    • Use in commemorations, ceremonies, and remembrance
    • Rights to access archives

May: Arching Student Life on Campus

  • Hosted by three archivist. One is from University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. Another one is from the University of Maryland. The final one is from Princeton University.
  • Discusses the importance of involving students in collecting archival information while at college
    • Used by future students for future analysis of campus life
    • Addresses the Challenges of collecting archival data from active students

June: Using Primary Sources as Instructions

  • Slated for June 2nd on Zoom
    • Pre-Register at the link here.
  • Hosted by a librarian and an archivist from Iowa State University.
  • Discuss how to use online instructional tools and activities
    • Additional discussion on self-care for instructors and students.
