Google Cardboard

You’re probably thinking, what is Google doing with cardboard? Well, they are taking people to places they never been before with the use of virtual reality. Google Cardboard is more than an app, it is an experience. Once you put the goggles on, it is like you are physically there. You see, hear, and can move like you are in the place that is being virtually shown to you.

Some of the apps I found interesting that go hand in hand with Google Cardboard were Cardboard Camera and YouTube. Cardboard Camera allows people to take pictures that they can revisit later using virtual reality technology. For example, say you went to the Grand Canyon and took a picture, once you got home, you would be able to visit it again just like if you were there by using Google Cardboard. Also, if watching YouTube while using Google Cardboard, music videos and more come to life. YouTube offers 360 degrees content making you feel like you are right inside the video.

One way that I would use this technology in my class is by letting each student pick their dream vacation spot. The students would take turns trying on the Google Cardboard and vacationing. After their vacations, I would ask the students to draw a picture of exactly what they saw. After drawing their picture, I would ask them to write a short paragraph stating whether they thought Google Cardboard was realistic and if they still wanted to travel to that place after already seeing it in virtual reality.
