Changemakers

While visiting the website, WE Schools, I found an interesting lesson idea called “We Are One”. The object was by using technology students can create a more inclusive world.

This stuck out to me because I am very passionate about the Disability Rights Movement. I volunteer daily with adults and children with disabilities. By implementing this idea into my classroom, I can help educate my students on why inclusion is important.

Part of this lesson that I really enjoyed was having the students take a trip to a building that is local. It could be the mall, grocery store, government building, or even have the students walk around the school. Have them take a camera with them and document places where someone with a disability would struggle or not be able to enter. Afterward, since I want to be a literature teacher, I could have the students use their evidence to write an argument-based letter to the owners of the building asking to make their space more accessible.
