WE Teachers: Diversity and Inclusion Modules

I really enjoyed reading through this resource about how teachers can learn to understand and acknowledge diversity in the classroom and how they can implement an inclusive environment for all students.

Diversity is an ongoing battle that teachers face in the classroom and it is extremely important for teachers to recognize when there are problems between students. Since the groundbreaking case of Brown vs. Board of Education where the court decided it is illegal to segregate public schools on the basis of race, it has been said that diverse schools help students consider other perspectives from their peers and reach farther than opinions they’ve already formed from being around family members or friends.

Programs like in WE Teachers helps teachers value the aspects of what makes each student different, and helps them welcome those differences in the classroom. For example, race and ethnicity is an important topic that teachers should be discussing with their students. When dealing with the topic of race and ethnicity, ignorance is not bliss and it should be addressed and the students should know that this does not need to be an “off topic” conversation. I like how in the WE Teacher resources, they offer different tools and activities the teachers can use in their classroom to ensure it is an inclusive environment.

In this screenshot above, this can be found in the modules of the WE teachers website and it helps by giving teachers suggestions on what activities they can do with their students to positively promote and celebrate race and ethnicity.

The WE Teachers module on diversity and inclusion gives so many different aspects and examples so that teachers can really do everything they can to promote a positive and diverse atmosphere for these students so they can learn to accept one another and understand that we are all different, and that is what makes us all so special and the world a better place!

Another great feature that is offered to teachers are different exercises and worksheets for students to express themselves and how they are feeling as they learn about diversity and inclusion.

I love this tool because teachers can use it as a self-reflection activity, which is how I would use it in my own classroom.

I like this activity above because this gives students an opportunity to learn about themselves and help them do some deeper thinking about who they are as people. I love that this ties into Mental Health Month, which is something I will introduce to my students because I feel like society believes that talking about your mental health or things that are bothering you is considered weak. I want my students to know that reaching out for help does not make you fragile, it makes you brave and strong for realizing that something is not right, and knowing when it is time to reach out to that helping hand.

While these questions might be hard for students to answer, if they are not comfortable writing it down, I want them to know that I am here to talk if they need to.

Thanks for checking out my page & this great tool for teachers to use in their classroom to help engage students in learning about diversity and inclusion!
