iEARN is a website that has global projects aligned to the UN Stainable Development Goals. iEARN enables students and educators worldwide to design and participate in international projects as part of their regular classroom and after-school programs. Participants become global citizens who make a difference by collaborating with their peers around the world.

I chose this tool because I genuinely believe that the best thing for young children is to explore the world and learn about different cultures. Growing up, I was fortunate enough to travel the world with my mother, and now we have been to twenty-seven different countries together. Seeing what I learned in textbooks with my own eyes was an incredible experience for me. Learning about how other kids my age lived truly made me feel grateful for the things I have. With iEARN, all children can share a similar experience like mine and encourage them to open their minds.

I would love to incorporate projects that iEARN has in my classroom. Each marking period as a class, we would choose from the many different projects available and have it be an ongoing assignment throughout the marking period. Students must learn to follow through with their work and see the outcome at the end. Having this project continue throughout the whole marking period would show them some responsibility. It is also essential for students to learn about other cultures and to connect with people around the globe.

iEARN has many different projects that teachers can be a part of, but the project that stuck out to me the most was the One Day in the Life project. One Day in the Life is a project in which students exchange photographs/images describing days in their lives and then make cross-cultural comparisons. Students may discuss aspects of a typical day (like visiting the market or going to school) or document special days (like vacations, birthdays, celebrations, or holidays.)

What I like about the iEARN is that it is super user-friendly. When you find a project you want, all the details are laid out very organized, and all your questions should be answered by all the information they give you. The layout is handy.

The Layout is:

  • Summary
  •  Description
  • Facilitators
  • Languages
  • Student Age Levels
  • Dates
  • Possible Classroom Activities
  • Expected outcomes
  • Group Contributions to others and the planet
  • Curriculum area
  • FAQ
