“The Walk Through Eden”

Let’s take a minute to talk about a surreal life experience. I am of course talking about Paul Salopek’s 24,000-mile odyssey and his decade-long experiment in active journalism. In The Story, Paul is walking the pathways of the first humans who migrated out of Africa and into the modern-day world that we all know and love. I’m going to take you on a journey in Nation geographics “Out of Eden Walk”

The Mighty crossing of “Red Sea”

At the first start of this journey with Paul salopek we see him traveling by camel caravan out across the lands of the “Nomadic Afar” and starting his voyage toward the Indian Ocean. Paul Salopek and guide Ahmed Alema Hessan leave the Ethiopian village of Bouri and wander through a local desert tribe where they participate in local customs. Here this tribe relied heavily on the food source of the mighty Desert and its plentiful yet cruel bounty. I really felt like this was a demonstration of basic human nature.

The Journey of the sacred lands

The next part of our adventure takes us through the desert expanses of the Arabian Peninsula. Here Paul Salopek takes the walk and journeys towards the north into holy lands that created the three great monotheistic faiths. Here he journeys down the jorden and into Saudi Arabia. It was great to see how many cultures can go together in one region to worship their beliefs.

“there’s Nothing Bazar about it”

The Silroad crossing the “Caspian”

Our journey leads us to a few years ago in FEBRUARY 2018 Salopek and his journeymen are still on a quest. Here he crosses the threshold of Central Asia. it led us to modern-day country Kazakstan. on the ancient quest, he was on the start of the silk road as we knew it. Horses were domesticated in Kazakhstan and still are to this day. As cargo animals are essential to daily life there. It was eye-opening as a modern country also incorporated “living off the land.

Learning curve of the Future

Well, where do I get one how does it work? a compatible Samsung Galaxy device acts as the headset’s display and processor, while the Gear VR itself acts as the controller, which contains the field of view, as well as a custom inertial measurement unit for adaptive use. This device was made as an alternative collaboration to the oculus quest which is famous for gaming. This allows the user to have a virtual experience in a multitude of ways.

How could we utilize this in a learning expeince?

Here we are able to use google earth tours as a platform for learning. With the use of google tours you can learn about many different subjects such as diverities of formations, cities countries and now even space. you could use information to create projects such as the change of ecosystems, climate and infostructures. Using google earth and Maps in a VR application in a classroom setting could help visulize the whole world in a different perspective.

Google Earth

Abstract concepts of Learning

The possiblities of learning foreign concepts through a VR tour is endless. This could allow students and Teachers alike to vizulize abstract concepts in a way that a cut and dry text book could ever teach you. Some of the best Educators in the world will agree that the best knowlege is gained through expeiences. Classrooms could begin to fathom concepts with the whole world as there templete. This could allow the students to relate what they learn to there daily studies, lives community and planet.

We-Well Being

Today in my research of we-virtual learning I stumbled across something that peculiarly caught my attention. It was a program that Introduces students to the concept of mental health literacy explored how mental health literacy plays a role in our well-being. We can share knowledge and curiosity through discussion and collaboration with others to understand the daily struggles that most go through without ever understanding colleagues or students’ lived events.

WE Well-being COVID-19 toolkit

How do we investigate to learn? the study I’m going to share was a lesson that targets a high school classroom with students in grades from 9-12. the program starts by letting the class know that they’ll be talking about mental health and the concept of mental health. An overall understanding of mental health, why it’s important, factors that can promote mental health,
and factors that can lead to mental health problems or social disorders.

Introducing #WE Well Being – TMC TheMulgraveCitizen

Why do you personally think mental health literacy is important? Collectively, this research study has come up with a few ways to practice mental health literacy. the one that stuck out was based on students’ responses. this will be a yearly progress chart to Keep the chart paper in plain view to reference as a class throughout the year and remind students of the ways they have identified to practice mental health literacy throughout the year.

Over the years I have grown close with many teachers and professors that had made a major impact on my life and my character as an adult. The majority of skills a student will learn will be in high school. After spending years of our lives in a classroom I believe that mental health literacy should be a social experiment introduced in a classroom setting. I believe that this could make a difference as a whole if teachers and students both collectively practice well-being for a greater understanding. Thank you, I hope you enjoyed the read.

Ragnarok

Ragnarok Netflix premire

Ragnarok is a Norwegian fantasy drama that takes place in modern-day Norway in a small town known as Edda. Edda is a fictional town that is located in western Norway.  Ragnarok is a show produced by Netflix that does not include English dubbing. It is a “subtitle only show” about a boy that inherits the powers of Thor, the Norse God of lightning. Ragnarok is well worth the watch if you are interested in an accurate description of north mythology.

One of the main things that caught my eye as a viewer was the fantasy story with accurate symbolism in the modern world as the main villain was a company that was rapidly polluting the environment. the physical senary and surroundings of Norway were absolutely beautiful. The show addressed an actual problem in the country of Norway and based the drama around it.

The show gave you excellent character development and complex relationships. the show also explored and represented the LGBTQIA community. the characters in the show showed and portrayed modern-day problems in local communities and countries around the world. The writers also used the senary and weather to depict emotions in a striking way.

I hope you enjoyed the read and hope that check out this show on Netflix. The visuals and dramatic acting were over the top on this one for me and how it addresses all of the going on in the world. I was overly impressed with the writer and how beautifully he linked the story of norse mythology into the modern world and importantly focused on climate change and added it to the show’s plot. I’ve attached below the link to Netflix.

Microsoft Sway: Create, Design and Share your Story

What is Microsoft Sway, and What Can I Do with It?
“Microsoft sways trademark icon “

What is Microsft Sway exactly?

Microsft says is a platform that allows you to create a Create dynamic visual presentations on a flexible storytelling platform. To me, the application feels like a combination of PowerPoint, Office, and Word put together in single page format. It allows a person or group to perform a presentation or blog-like panel on a floating platform. This allows users to scroll on the page as opposed to sliding or page format.

Teaching with sway

Sway is like a digital portfolio tool where students can “post” pages of their written and visual work on the web.  Students can share their pages with peers or teachers in a virtual walkthrough of their work seamlessly. Teachers can take advantage of Sway’s easy design templates and simple creation platform, too.

“Come sway away”

Once you get the gist of it, creating visually stunning stories in Sway can be very beneficial. This could be useful to create content that is easy to share with users. My take on this is that Sway is a tool that a teacher can use to present different lessons. An important learning from this application is its flexibility it demonstrates unique integration of many different files and sharing methods. Also, it is very important that students themselves can also use this tool to Enrich their learning

Learn About CBYX

What really is the Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange? The CBYX is an international student exchange program that is funded by the U.S and german Governments that provides scholarships for high school students that are American or German. This allows students to travel and learn Abroad for a year of homestead academics.

How it Actually works

Students will have a placement with a carefully selected German host family and receive Admission to a German high school with Language lessons upon arrival in Germany. Their students will have orientation programs. Then they will have a cultural experience as a whole. In the program, the students attend meetings with U.S. and German Governments.

Why I was Impressed

I personally chose this blog because I felt related to it as I’m a Spanish language major. I came here as a high school student myself and now I’m studying to become a Teacher. This program has some pretty incredible features and I think studying abroad in any form is just an amazing experience.

All About the Culture

who wouldn’t want to experience a culture and learn a language through a full immersion experience? Learn about a culture first-hand by living with a host family and attending high school. This leads to a higher level of cultural acknowledgment that leaves you prepared for an ever-expanding competitive world.

Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 14

Goal 14 poster: sustainability of the ocean

Conserve and sustainable use of the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development. This is something that we have all heard time and time again. In recent years we have seen issues surface that make us question what we are really doing to the planet. Each year we as humans destroy more and more of the planet with rising pollution levels we are slowly destroying the oceanic environment.

Where To Start?

A common question is where to start with the renewal of our ocean. The ocean is the largest ecosystem and is the greatest amount of mass of surface on our planet. You would think that we would pay more attention to it as a whole. But in all reality is the most unexplored and reached body that we have. Out of all research funds, only 1% nationally goes into the research of the ocean. The world leaders don’t want you to know how there pumping millions of metric tons of waste into it every day. The Dasani water bottle you threw out at lunch or the last time you used the bathroom. It All ends up in the ocean, then we ask ourselves why our waters are polluted and ecosystems are crumbling daily.

whale washed up in the Philippines with 40kgs of plastic waste

Realistically there is no way to stop the flames from spreading unless every single human would stop producing a massive amount of waste. Every year there are higher percentiles of dead zones(oceanic areas of low or no oxygen) and micro plastic contamination in the ocean. This leads to a decline in fishing ocean farming and destroys jobs and food sources for over 3 billion people that depend on the ocean for survival. the purpose of this blog was to open your eyes as a reader. Maybe our eyes will turn to environmental rehabilitation in my lifetime.
