Virtual Reality

As technology begins to grow in today’s world, we now have a lot more advancements that our advantage especially to use in global collaboration. A tool that can give students an idea of a place outside of their range would be Google Earth tours. Google Earth tours is a online tool that can be used in giving a virtual tour to see places on a map within minutes. It is very convenient in giving a idea of the outside world to your classroom. This tool gives the opportunity to work on student’s geography skills when it comes to find areas on the map. The tools allows people to get as close as street views on these virtual tours. I think it is of very beneficial to use when trying to get access and a accurate look to finding places especially while keeping students interested.

Out of Eden Walk

In this week’s assignment we got the opportunity to explore an experiment of Paul Salopek’s 24,000 mile journey. Paul went to walk on this journey to experience the pathway that the first humans who had migrated out of Africa in the stone to the world that we know of today. While on this journey he discovered stories about things such as Climate Change to technical innovations and mass migration to cultural survival. He slowly began to find a better understanding of how we got to our new world of today.

With his journey on all these places I choose three places to explore, the first one I choose to “walk through” was Yusan, Yunnan China. Yusan means “umbrella” in mandrian which I found to be a cute fact to know about this place. Yusan is located in Yunnan Province in far southwest China. It is difficult to understand how long this place has been around but its believed to be around the Ming dynasty era because of how old the roads are. China is known for being crossroad of memory and Yusan happens to be apart of it as one of the bridges.

The next spot I choose was Pyla, Cyprus, Paul made a stop here on his 548th day of the voyage which was his 21st milestone. When I was exploring I noticed it’s dry desert-iness but it wasn’t fully deserted it still had some bits of life with the patchy grass. The dry chalky roads stood out to me because it wasn’t something that I had been used to seeing. Just for the looks of Cyprus you can only imagine how hot it is. I would most definitely go see it as it wold be a place out of my comfort zone.

On the last place that I explored was Qafzeh Cave, Israel, which happened to be apart of the holy lands part of Paul’s voyage. From the looks of Israel it is the opposite of Cyprus, it has the less of the dryness look to it. It gives a cool and calm feel to it which looks very peaceful making it seem a very fitting place of me to explore.

Changemakers

This week we went over how changemakers are all around when it comes to making a change in this world especially for things that go in hand with Sustainable Development Goals. People are coming up with ways to constantly aid and make our communities better by coming together to make it. On WE.org shares multiple incites on how to make teaching more hands on in my opinion. On of the resources I found related to mental health, mental health is an very important topic to reach on because everyone deserves the help that they need when it comes to certain circumstances. For example this module on mental help further speaks on understanding the issue and different ways to address mental-well beings to students. I loved this module and the information that is very beneficial to those who may be in need of it.

Discovering Hyperdocs

This week our class has been speaking on the topic of hyperdocs, hyperdocs is an interactive page online task on google docs or slides that replaces the traditional in-person worksheet that we have been accustomed to do in a classroom. By clicking the bold lettering or words that are highlighted can lead you into a link that has a topic and directions that you will be using for that lesson that has been assigned. For example the google doc may include the assignment and clicking on it can give you all the information just like this. By clicking the bold word previously would lead you to the task that needs to be completed followed by the directions on how to complete it.

Virtual Field Trips

This week in class we were given the opportunity to explore and pick a topic that we would find interest in to know more about. The one that stuck out the most to me was the Ellis Island Interactive Tour. This tour spoke on how there had been more than 12 million immigrants that made their first migration stop in America. It was recorded to happen between the years of 1892 and 1954 that mist people can trace back their family’s history back to Ellis Island. This interactive tour allows people to find out facts that happened back in this time period, as well as getting images from the history, personal stories from people, and the impact that Ellis Island had on American history.

Subtitles in Shows

I, myself would watch any show that interests me and captures my attention. If the show’s trailer gets my attention from the start but isn’t in a language I understand I am sure to use subtitles to break down those language barriers. Subtitles gives me the opportunity to still be able to the visual of the show and having the show translated doesn’t take away from the art of the show.

La Casa De Papel (Money Heist) is a Netflix series that the language spoken by actors are speaking Spanish in the show but have English subtitles as well as it being voiced over in English. The show is about eight thieves take hostages and lock themselves in the Royal Mint of Spain as a criminal mastermind manipulates the police to carry out his plan. The way that show handles criminals is way different from how things would be carried out in the U.S, but then again the characters are all masterminds who outsmart higher authority. They are also constantly on the move and traveling to different parts of the world without getting caught. Yes there are felons but they manage to hide without being caught.

Communication

This week’s reading of chapter 2 from Sail the 7 Cs with Microsoft Education I found multiple things that I haven’t realized was really a thing in forms of communication. But I will use to help further help my future in the education field. Such as communication is used to break down multiple issues that come about in a classrooms. It is one of the main resources that holds a classroom together. Teachers use communication to help better understanding when it comes down to learning. As well as using tools such as Immersive Reader which both students and teachers can benefit from. Microsoft translator helps break down some of the language barrier issues that may come about in teaching a lesson which is a great tool to have as a resource.

Reflecting on the Sustainable Development goals

(SDG) Sustainable Development Goals is a plan to take action in creating a safer reality for peace and prosperity to end deprivations for the people and the planet. To combat these deprivations people have came together to formulate strategies in hopes to help better climate change, health, education, reduce inequalities, and economic growth all by the year 2030.

The goal that interests me the most was quality education, as I, myself becoming a future educator it is important for everyone to make sure they get a opportunity at education like most people are able to. The main goal for quality education is to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. A target for quality education is to by 2030, is for all girls and boys to complete free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education leading to relevant and effective learning. Another target that I found important was that by 2030, to have equal access for all women and men to affordable and quality technical, vocational and tertiary education, including universities. These are some goals that are to help the direction education and shape it for the better.

The Global Educator’s Toolbox

The Global Educator’s Toolbox is a great source to get information and resources that will come in handy for learning in classrooms. This tool is filled with many helpful sources that pertain to any grade that you have a focus in. The tool that stood out to me the most was the International Children’s Digital Library – A Library for the World’s Children.

International Children’s Digital Library’s mission is to help lessen those language barriers that cause issues and making it harder and harder for educational initiatives to bring success. Having access to books can be struggle if certain areas don’t have that ability to get them. So ICDL’s goal is to give support to children in hopes to get them to become effective members in the global community.

Having a source like ICDL is important to have around because believe or not there is sometimes a limited amount of books that students have access to. I find it very helpful to have a well-reliable source as a library so children won’t have to run into the problem of not getting the information that they need. I will be using this source in my classroom to further support them in their books and literature.

Collaboration in Education

What is Collaboration?

Based on my understanding collaboration is the ability of two or more people working together. Collaboration is something that is can used on a daily basis without us realizing it. We often share ideas with one another to get ideas across. In education educators collaborate on many things such as lesson plans, support, and reaching goals. With having the support from others in the field can allow more of a stress free and less harder working environment. Collaboration can be broken down into three main components such as: cooperating, coordinating, and co-creating.

An Example of Collaboration with Microsoft

Microsoft has came up with a partnership with Made by Dyslexia to focus on giving Dyslexia training. It was their mission to create support to educators to SPOT, SUPPORT & EMPOWER every student with dyslexia. The training consists of two levels of training. Level one focuses on giving parents and teachers the essentials when it comes to help learners with dyslexia. Level two will better your understanding on dyslexia, including specialist strategies, solutions, show you what to teach, how it helps, and how to do it properly. This training was developed to further help learners with dyslexia and give educators ways to transform their teaching.
