Scott Ribinsky Freshman Blog 3

On Saturday the 23rd I attended the Day of Leadership with the speaker Naomi Natale. I was not looking forward to spending the majority of my Saturday out going to this event. The only reason that I was going was to fulfill my requirements for service learning. Waking up early and getting moving all so I could finish my service learning requirements was not going to be fun. However, I willed myself up and out to this event and I was extremely impressed. Each of the workshops were fun, creative, and informational. I was able to take away a lot of information about how to be a leader and what skills are needed to organize and run an event/project.
During lunch Naomi came over and sat with my table and talked with us. This was by far the coolest part of the day because the five of us at the table got to ask her personal questions. We were able to talk with her about her projects and what she thought of the ideas we had. She was very nice and gave us some advice about what she thought we should to in order to further our ideas. After the day was over my opinion on the day had changed drastically, I began the day thinking that it would be a boring day filled with guest speakers but it was much more fun that that.

I attended the Campus Center Movie Night and saw This is the End.  This is the End is a comedy about the apocalypse staring Seth Rogan, James Franco, Jonah Hill, and Jay Baruchel.  This movie was interesting because all of the actors in this movie played themselves.  The movie begins with a party at James Franco’s house.  However, everything changes when the apocalypse takes place.  During the apocalypse most of the population is sucked up into heaven, but most of the actors are left on earth.  The actors must find a way to survive while the world falls apart around them, while also trying to please god and get lifted into heaven.

I enjoyed the movie, I thought it was funny but there was a lot of hype for it and the movie did not satisfy my expectations.  The film also took a dark and borderline horror aspect to it, which caught me of guard.  The event itself was run very well, the theater was filled up for the movie, which is a testament on how well it was planned out.  The prizes that were given out were chosen well.  This event is pretty cool because they always show newer movies.  I look forward to going to see the next movie night.

Day of Service Blog By Scott Ribinsky

During my first few weeks at Stockton I signed up for the Day of Service so I could be active in the community. When I went into the Campus Center in the morning it was full of people who were all there to make a difference in a community. After breakfast my friends and I all went into the event room to choose where we wanted to go. I went to the PAL table and was told that we would be painting and I was sold. I started the day by scraping off the old paint with scrapers and brushes. When I finished I started painting the outlines by the trim with the brushes. I did that for the rest of the morning, then after lunch, we all went together and reflected on why we were doing this service.
After lunch I continued painting the trim and around the windows with the small brushes until we were finished. On the way back to Stockton I reflected on the difference I made during the time I spent helping the PAL. The police officer who showed us around and told us what needed to be done was ecstatic about the work done. It felt good to know that you had a positive impact on him. I am looking forward to the next day of service to provide more service to others and have the same positive impact on someone.
