Google Classroom

Welcome to my first, “Research Response” post! As I was searching twitter using the hashtag #edtechchat I came across as an article written by Sarah Kiefer, “A Deep Dive into Google Classroom Settings You Can Do”

4 main setting areas of google classroom:

1- Invite vs Join; With google classroom, you will have to invite your fellow students to your google classroom page so they can view assignments and class tasks. When a student joins the class they can see everything you post and are officially apart of the class.

2- ALL Notifications: This setting is when other teachers and students can see every notification that is posted on the site page by the teacher whether its for tests, homework, projects, extra assignments.

3- Class-Specific Notifications: This setting underlies the ability for the class to see only certain notifications that are needed to be viewed once the teacher posts them on the front page of google classroom. This way, students can see what is coming up soon for work assignments or class events.

4- Assignment Settings: Students will be able to view only posts for any assignments that need to be done, coming up, or past due that need to be discussed over.

Knowing the settings for Google Classroom is very important to know especially as a teacher because you will use this in your classroom to give students assignments, feedback, and more. For personal experience, I’ve had to use google classroom for one of my classes and needed to know how to navigate it and find all my assignments and class feeds. As a future teacher, I will further need to know more about google classroom as I will be using it with my students during the school day and possibly outside of school.
