Lolla-No-Booza

On October 29th, two days before Halloween, the Wellness Center and Drug and Alcohol Peer Educators hosted Lolla-No-Booza, a fun and informative event spreading awareness about the dangers and facts of drugs and alcohol. The event was held in the Campus Center Event room from 7:00pm-11:00pm and there was food, games, and a ton of prizes for students to win. This year’s theme was “Freakshow,” a perfect fit for the week of Halloween. Inside the room all those who were working the event were dressed as clowns and other circus-like characters in spirit of the theme. There was even someone walking around on stilts. Right outside the Event Room there were two people juggling bowling pins.

The attendees walked in, many dressed in costumes, to table after table of fun games for students to play: water pong, spinning wheels, knocking down cups with balls, and more. After each win, a student would get a raffle ticket and be entered to win one of the numerous prizes baskets donated by various vendors. The long table of prizes seemed endless. In addition to the multiple carnival-like games available to play there was bull riding as well as a photo booth for students to capture all of the night’s memories.

Even if students didn’t have much luck with the raffle, they still were able to get free things because as the event was coming to an end, students received plastic cups filled with coupons to nearby restaurants. No matter how the night turned out, everyone ended the event a winner.

Sherlock Holmes Play

On the rainy evening of October 2, 2015 a professional group of five actors and actresses put on a performance of three acts of the tales of the infamous Sherlock Holmes, written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, in Stockton’s PAC (Performing Arts Center). The performers presented their own variation of the stories of “The Adventure of the Copper Beeches,” “The Adventure of the Yellow Face,” and “A Scandal in Bohemia”.   Despite the weather, the weary viewers still came to see the show, taking their seats they waited with anticipation for the lights to dim and the show to begin.

The room went dark, with the growing light of the spotlight encompassing a sole figure on the stage, the hum of the violin they were playing growing louder. It was Sherlock Holmes. Then with the knock of a door, Dr. John Watson had entered and the show had begun. The production deviated from the original stories in the manner of adding short bits of comedic outbursts, actors/actresses playing characters of the opposite gender, and, most noticeably, the portrayal of Sherlock Holmes as a woman. The production stayed true to the stories for the most part, sometimes with direct quotes form the story, but the changes made no difference in the retelling of the stories, other than making them more captivating and interesting.

Overall the production was well worth the walk in the rain. The concluding scene of shock and suspense as to who this Moriarty was left the crowd on the edge, disappointed at the fact that the show was over, as the lights came on.

Black Light Mini Golf

On the evening of Wednesday, September 23, the Stockton Entertainment Team, aka SET, hosted black light mini golf in the Campus Center Event Room. Many students gathered in groups outside the entrance in anticipation, some having been there half an hour before the event even started, or was set up. Everyone was told by the SET members to split up into groups of five, and then they picked a group name and were given a number and told to wait until their number was called to enter the mini golf. There were more than 30 groups waiting outside the room in the Campus Center lobby. While the students were waiting to play, the Stockton Entertainment Team had pizza available for everyone to enjoy.

Once the students entered the room, they were guided through the darkness and flashing black lights towards a podium where they were given glowing golf balls and golf clubs. There were ten holes total, each glowing in various neon colors with their own glowing, individual obstacles. The room itself was completely covered, floor to ceiling, in dancing green lights, while music playing in the background. Everyone that was wearing white or light colors glowed in the darkness. After the students made their rounds through all ten of the holes, they dropped their golf balls and clubs back where the started, and were able to pick up a snack of their choice from a table by the exit.

Overall it was an enjoyable and fun-filled night. Everyone had a great time playing all the mini golf holes, hanging out with friends and even making new ones.
