Fall 08 Class Activism Project

Dr. J’s section of the “Perspectives on Women” course researches a women’s issue that effects our campus and then votes on an issue that requires activism. The class then designs and implements an activism project that addresses the selected theme. In the Fall of 2007 the class focused on sexual health. In the Fall of 2008 the class decided to focus on body image.

Part of the Fall 08 project involved an educational table–complete with homemade treats prepared by class members–that aimed to educate the Stockton population about distorted body image and encourage positive, healthy body images. Another aspect of the project involved a media project in the form of a public service announcement that aims to accomplish the same goals: educate, raise awareness, and promote positive, healthy images about our bodies. The PSA video is no longer available.
