Darlyne de Haan

I am the co-founder and Executive Director of Mad About Science, and currently a Middle School Vice-Principal.
I have enjoyed a career as a former Instructional Specialist for the NJ Department of Education, Forensic Scientist and Environmental Chemist. I possess over 20 years experience in STEM education and am the co-creator of PLASMA-BOTICS- A STEM program where robotics is used as the medium to stimulate student interest in math and science.

I love conducting professional development for teachers and administrators from math and science instruction to teaching strategies for teaching English Language Learners students in the General Education Classroom, because I believe to empower teachers is to empower students. I have presented at many conferences both at the National and State levels, including NCTM, SDE, and the New Jersey Department of Education.

I love learning languages. I consider myself proficient in Spanish and Dutch, but I am going for mastery. I hold two Masters degrees in Education; Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Leadership and a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry and mathematics. I have two wonderful adult children, and have been married for 35 years. I love physical challenges and have recently faced a fear of heights by starting indoor rock climbing.
