Shy L. Williams

Shy L. Williams is a former detective, professional speaker, author, social justice advocate and an uncommon mentor. Born and raised in Plainfield, New Jersey, She started her higher education at Montclair State University where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Justice Studies and Master of Arts in Law & Governance. Shy is currently a 2nd Lieutenant in the New Jersey Army National Guard serving as the Officer Strength Manager with the Headquarters 44th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

Shy kick started her detective career in the Special Victims Unit in the City of Camden where she amazingly rose to the rank of Detective in just eight months from patrol. She served on the Camden County Police Department for four years before joining Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office as an undercover Narcotics Detective with the Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force. In her five plus years of working in law enforcement, Shy has successfully spearheaded many operations; she’s covered cases of domestic violence, sexual assaults, juvenile crimes, fraud, narcotics and much more. Owing to her passion, dedication and love for what she does, Shy truly enjoyed helping victims get back on track and find purpose for their lives.

Shy is also a Criminal Justice Instructor and Entrepreneur. She has taught and trained law enforcement officers on updated state laws and policies. Shy has provided live trainings to over thousand of students in different school districts; introducing participants to the criminal justice system and law enforcement and also explaining how to interact with modern law enforcement to build and create better encounters between police officers and citizens. Further, she is the Founder and President of the Annie Lee Jones Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization. The Annie Lee Jones Foundation is named after her late great-grandmother and it was founded out of her passion to reach out and enrich the lives of others. Her foundation is responsible for serving over 1,000 students annually with school supplies in preparation of having a successful school year. Also, serving the less fortunate with hot meals during the holiday seasons and much more.

Shy is a prolific writer and the author of the two must read books for children, Proud Black Girl and Proud Black Boy. As a hobby, she enjoys mentoring inner city children and she has spent 10 solid years doing it passionately. She has a magical way of making girls and boys embrace self-love, self-respect, self-enrichment and place value on education; which is also the message in her two books.
