Educational Technology Blog Post 3

“Technology in the classroom”

Hi, welcome back to my weekly blog!

Hello, welcome back to my third blog! This blog contains information about using skype in the classroom. As I used twitter, YouTube and other social medias, I found examples of how classes have been using skype for lessons and several lesson plans that use skype.

When I first started to learn about digital tools, I wondered
how they worked. Little did I know that they were so amazing! In fact, the ways
these tools (specifically skype) are used blew my mind. Here are some ways skype is used in class rooms:

1.Absent students-

Trough out. School year there will be several students who
may become ill or have other reasons to be absent. Skype is a great tool to allow absent students to talk with their
teachers to not only catch up on work but ask questions on the work they were
assigned.

2.Global Learning
As you will see in the YouTube video attached, teachers use skype for global learning. Teachers can
video chat other classes around the world to learn about their culture and the
difference in life styles. This is a great learning strategy that I wish I had growing
up.

3.Group Projects
Students who are placed in groups for projects might not keep in contact. The easiest way to make sure they are staying in
contact and working together on their project is skype. Skype allows for
students not only to talk and see each other, but they can also share their screens to show what they
are looking at.

4. Communication with
Parents-
Aside from the students using this tool, parents can as well. If a
parent needs to talk with the teacher about their child or can’t make it to a
meeting, skype is a great tool to
allow for the parents to keep in contact without needing to make a physical appearance.

Do I think this tool will be hard to us in the class?

While skype may take a while to set up and explain to
students I feel as though the positives outweigh the negatives. As seen in the
lesson plan I attached there are several ways we can use this tool in the classroom
for our benefit. There is no excuse not to use this amazing tool.
