On Thursday, April 19th from 2:30-4:30pm in the Lodge at Lakeside, the Office of Service Learning provided information to students interested in “Year of Service” opportunities after graduation. City Year, AmeriCorps, PeaceCorps and more were discussed by a panel of alumni and representatives.
Financial benefits of “Service Years” for Domestic and International Service opportunities were also discussed. Our Assistant Director of Financial Aid Angie Velez, an alumna of AmeriCorp City Year, was on the panel. In addition to talking about her own service learning experiences and the Segal education award, after the panel has ended, panelists broke up into separate tables to provide additional information and distributed materials to further engage students: HESAA’s Student Loan Guide, ED’s Do You Need Money For College brochure, a handout of income-driven repayment plan options, and FedLoan Servicing’s flyer called “Considering a Career in Public Service?” that talks about the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.
