There has been an update to the FSA ID process for parents without social security numbers.
As you are aware, parent’s without social security numbers were expected to be able to create FSA ID’s when the 24-25 FAFSA launched in December 2023. You may also be aware that there have been some challenges with this process since the launch of the application. As a result of these challenges, the U.S. Department of Education has notified schools of a temporary fix to the FSA ID and FAFSA completion process.
Previously, students whose parent(s) do not have a social security number and were experiencing challenges with having their identity verified for the FSA ID creation process were unable to complete the FAFSA. For now, parents without social security numbers are able to complete their section of the FAFSA before their identity has been verified through the FSA ID creation process.
To get started, parent(s) without a social security number will attempt to create their FSA ID at studentaid.gov. After creating their ID, parents must complete all steps to have their identity verified; however, they do not need to wait for this verification before completing their section of the FAFSA. After the student invites their parent(s) to contribute to their application, parent(s) will receive an email asking them to log into studentaid.gov to complete their section of the FAFSA. The parent’s FSA ID will now allow them to log into studentaid.gov and complete their section of the FAFSA.
If you haven’t already, please be sure to complete this process as soon as possible! The deadline for students who received the State Tuition Aid Grant (TAG) and/or the Stockton Promise in the 2023-2024 academic year to complete the 2024-2025 FAFSA is June 1!

If you’ve already completed your FAFSA, please continue to monitor your email for updates from our office. Barring any additional delays from the U.S. Department of Education, we anticipate sending aid offers to students beginning later in May.
