Useful Web Tools in the Classroom

February 19, 2024

Web tools are not only an educational benefit to a teacher’s curriculum but a fun and interactive way to engage your students! A web tool that I found extremely useful is the site “National Geographic Explorer Classroom”. This tool promotes the use of live video for immediate answers to questions when reading the material through chats enabling the user to not only read the interesting material but view examples too!

The “National Geographic Explorer Classroom” is organized into different categories to guide the user towards the specific material they need (Social Studies, Geography, Biology). Different grade levels are also given so the user can find material that pertains to their level of education ensuring the user can comprehend the information. If the user is a visual learner, maps and videos are available throughout the site too!

I would use this tool in my classroom daily. I am a History major and understand this tool to be useful in many different ways towards many different ideas. My lesson plans would derive from the many offered ideas and concepts given through this tool which will allow me to incorporate a visual explanation to my students.

  1. As a future teacher I found your blog so helpful. I like how you explained how Web tools are not only an educational benefit to a teacher’s curriculum but a fun and interactive way to engage your students while giving other resources teachers like myself can use. This blog was a great read and was extremely helpful to me!

  2. This website is a great example of how technology can enhance a lesson, especially for visual learners like you mentioned. Even though I’ll be teaching science, I could use this website in my classroom too.

  3. As you’ve noted, this website is a prime example of how technology may improve instruction, especially for visual learners. Even though teaching science is my primary focus, including this platform in my lessons offers a variety of benefits. Its potential is not restricted to any one subject; it can be used in many different fields. I can increase students’ comprehension and engagement by using this material, which will make learning more immersive and dynamic.

  4. Hello, I’m Maggie. I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed reading through this post and the various ways that web tools can be used. Having the chance to talk live and answer questions for students is a great way to build an understanding with the world around them. You said in the post that you could make lesson plans using the “National Geographic Explorer Classroom”, what type of lesson plans can get made from this resource, could you create a whole unit based on it? I always love to here opinions from others, so if you would like to see what others are posting, here is a link to my own blog :https://blogs.stockton.edu/webtoolsspring24/author/lohreym/
