Communication through Reflect

By Lorraine Montero

Through a site called Wakelet I explored a resource on Communicators via Microsoft Forms: Creating Authentic Assessments. Upon exploring the site, it offered numerous education training for teachers one that stood out to me was the Social-emotional Learning Module. For current and future educators this resource is excellent because it provides different modules of training from Minecraft education to Reflect which contain videos and insight on how each system works.

Reflects enhancement of the Feelings Monster gives both student and teacher the opportunity to build a healthy student-teacher relationship, moreover, showing the student that the teacher in fact cares about their well-being but also, for the teacher it’s a positive way to see how a student is dealing with their emotions in and outside of the classroom. Ultimately, using a tool such as Reflect can be a wonderful communication tool by implementing the responses of stories or lessons discussed by the teacher where then the students can emotionally express how they feel about a certain lesson or topic allowing the teacher to refine a lesson or, add more emphasis to a subject where students have a hard time understanding. Social and Emotional learning through this platform is an absolute game changer for education and my hope is that every school puts a tool like Reflect to good use. The module in Microsoft Education for the introduction on Reflect can be found here.
