Collaboration in Classrooms

By Camille De La Torre

Collaboration is being used in classrooms across the world. There are many benefits to adding collaboration into the classroom. In an article I found by Veronica Buckler, she states some of the benefits of collaboration in project based learning. Some of the benefits she listed where:

  • Learning how to listen
  • Succeeding with others
  • Holding others accountable
Students collaborating with each other

Allowing students to collaborate with each other lets them learn many skills, including social skills. They learn how to talk with others about a problem they may be facing. As well as having students talk to others that they may not usually talk to, improving those social skills.

While collaboration is a good thing to add into your classroom for your students, it is good to use it to help yourself as an educator. Collaborating as an educator allows you to learn different ideas that you may not have thought of. You can talk with other educators about what has worked for them and what has not worked.

Go ahead and give collaborating a try in your classroom!
