Accessibility Tools

Stockton offers GREAT tools available to take your writing to the next level! I believe using these tools makes learning so much more fun for the students.

JAWS

The first tool id like to mention is JAWS. JAWS is the most popular screen reader, developed for computer users who suffer from vision loss. JAWS provides speech and braille output for the most popular computer applications! Features of JAWS:

ZOOM TEXT

Zoom text is a magnifying option for those who have a hard time seeing small text. This tool is used with Microsoft Windows and give those with vision loss the accessibility to see what they need.

SMARTPENS

Im not surprised that technology has come this far, but it still is shocking! SmartPens work like an ordinary pen, but use bluetooth to pick up audio and deliver it directly to your smart device! This is great for students to record a lecture, and be able to go back and listen to it when they’re at home.

THUNDER T3

If you are like me, I get distracted with the slightest bit of noise! Thunder T3 are earmuffs designed to block out noise! This is something I will definitely consider having available in my classroom so I can ensure my student’s that they will not get easily distracted by outside noise.

C-PEN READER

This pen is a digital device that reads printed text aloud. For those who struggle to focus when reading, this pen will read the text aloud to you! This is a great tool to make sure that kids stay focused on their readings.

DRAGON NATURALLY SPEAKING

This is a voice-driven program that allows students to essentially think out loud. This tool is great for student’s who have a hard time putting their thoughts onto paper, so instead, they can “think out loud” and this tool will pick up their words and put it on paper for them!

SONOCENT

This is an audio note-taking software. Like the tool mentioned above, student’s can talk out loud, and this software will put their words onto the document for them. Like myself, I sometimes get writers block and have a hard time getting started on papers. Using this software will make students more comfortable when they are able to think out loud.

There are so many amazing accessibility tools that we can use to make improvement in our learning, teaching and in our classrooms! Thanks for stopping by.
