Using the Stockton Garden State Distance Learning Consortium website, I was able to take a virtual field trip to Italy. This exhibit is allows you to virtually venture through thirty-six different destinations in Italy from the comfort of your couch. When you click on a destination, each place shows the top attractions and things to do.

The first place that I decided to travel to is Rome, Italy. While in Rome, I decided to go to the Colosseum. When I got here, I was able to participate in an interactive slide that showed the before and after of the reconstruction of the Colosseum. There was also many different angles where I could see the inside and the outside. While reading and learning more about the Colosseum, I learned that the grand opening ceremony last one hundred days!

After Rome, I decided to visit Florence, Italy. When I visited here, there were many sculptures and art to be discovered. A statue that was celebrated as one of the “greatest masterpieces of the Renaissance” was Michelangelo’s David statue. A cool fact that I learned at this exhibit was that Michelangelo sculpted David’s pupils in the shape of a heart.

Being able to have access to this virtual field trip was super helpful and I learned so much. This tour brought Italy to you through its interactive walk throughs that even lets you walk the streets of Italy. I feel like this tool could be so fun for students in the classroom. Students can learn all about different places from around the world from the chairs of their desks!
