For my virtual field trip, I visited The National Zoo Live Cams. The Smithsonian National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute has the option where you can watch live footage of six of their animals.
Animals you can watch live footage of include
- Andean Bear Cub
- Giant Panda
- Cheetah Cub
- Naked Mole-Rat
- Lion
- Elephant
The option to watch how these animals act can be a great lesson to take into the classroom. After spending some time watching the live feed, you can see just how they act in certain situations. As well as how they act in general. While it is best to watch the feed during the day, if you need a little serotonin boost, you can watch it at night while they are sleeping. It just may not be as exciting as when they are playing.
Utilizing this tool in the classroom can help children of any age learn new things. You can talk about habitat, environment, point of view and even why they act a certain way. There are many lessons that can be talked about using the live-stream footage.
Hope you enjoyed and make sure to check out the National Zoo Live Cams!
