Empatico is a free online educational platform that allows classrooms and students from all around the world to connect, discuss, and interact. The topics provided are all free and include lessons in, STEM, literacy, and art. The service also provides a few other programs that all contain similar services but different use cases. For example, the ‘Coding With Empathy Challenge’ pairs classrooms from the United States to classrooms in Egypt as they work together and grow Computer Science skills.
The main goal and science behind the use of Empatico is growing students’ social skills and empathy, which are essential qualities for fostering meaningful relationships and building a more compassionate, collaborative world.
Integrating interactions from classrooms in other countries is an excellent way to grow students respect, understanding, and tolerance in a diverse world. Students have the opportunity to engage with peers from different backgrounds and gain a more nuanced perspective on global issues.
What I find useful from Empatico is the collaboration aspect of it. It is an excellent way to foster collaboration amongst your students. It also would not be a bad idea to work with the teachers of the other class and integrate projects for different groups to do. The groups would consist of some students from one class and some students form the other.
