Consensus in Meetings

How Consensus is important when it comes to giving everyone an equal shot at having a say in something regardless of the scenario. Making sure the best outcome is voted for but in the fairest way.

Majority Voting Consensus
Proposal must serve the needs of 51% Proposal must serve the needs of all
Stifles minority voices and reduces problem-solving Amplifies minority voices and increases problem-solving
Win/lose dynamic Collaborative dynamic
Leverages traditional hierarchical power structures (boss/employee) Shares power among equals
The leader is solely responsible for outcomes All share responsibility for outcomes

There are times when consensus isn’t the best thing to do. Thats because not all people like to have the same opinions on things. Having some of the same thoughts and ideas is what makes a consensus vote a good one. Having the best chance at a fair vote comes with the cooperation of all members, whether it be through consensus or majority voting.

Consensus is important in giving groups the most professional vote. Having a general agreement on something whether it be simple or hard makes the whole debate on deciding what to agree on easier in the end.
