The Covid-19 pandemic pushed schools to enhance their everyday technology. While scrolling through Twitter, I came across a tweet from @EDTech_K12 with an article attached from EdTech’s website. Andrew Zuckerman, an administrator, took on the role of being in charge of the schools’ technology.
What Did Andrew Zuckerman do?
Because of the pandemic, Zuckerman made sure that every child could have a school issued device that allowed them to do work at home. After the pandemic, the one-to-one student to device ratio remained the same in the district so teachers could incorporate online programs into their lessons.
Zuckerman’s View on Digital Equity
- Every student should have access to high speed internet
- All students should have high quality computers
- Devices are an integral part of education that all students should have access to
Instructional Technology Used in the Classroom in Zuckerman’s District
- Smart Interactive Displays
- Canvas
How does Zuckeman think this technology effect teachers?
- Teachers can collaborate with other teachers from all over the world
- Teachers can take online training for cyber security, special education, mental health, and student safety
What is Zuckerman’s idea for the future?
He would like to have teachers be able to present in one class in person while presenting online to another class at the same time. The class that is online would have a paraprofessional or substitute overseeing the classroom.
The pandemic has forever increased the amount of technology that schools use on a daily basis. Andrew Zuckerman has shown this by striving to keep up with the one-to-one program.
