Using Hyperdocs in the Classroom

For this week’s blog post I was able to explore hyperdocs.  Hyperdocs are some sort of document or presentation that allow someone to click the links throughout the page.  The links can take you to websites, assignments, games, and more.  How far you go really is up to your imagination.  When I first started looking for examples of hyperdocs I was surprised to find so many available to use.  It was something I had never heard of or used too much in previous classes.  I was able to find hyperdocs for all ages and subjects almost instantly.

The hyperdoc that I ended up spending a lot of time on was for a math review game board and can be found by clicking here.  I liked this hyperdoc for multiple reasons.  The first reason is because it gives students the freedom of choice within their learning.  Students who needed more practice on one section were able to choose to complete that section instead of wasting their time reviewing something that they have already mastered.  I also liked how students had access to all of the resources.  Each student had to complete a minimum number of the assignments, but they could have more practice if they wanted or needed it.  Students were able to also work at their own pace throughout the assignment.  Everyone was reviewing, but not everyone was reviewing the same things.  It gives students a clear expectation of what they need to be doing while also giving them some freedom to work at their own pace.

Hyperdocs are a great addition to any classroom.  It allows for students to be more independent while also working on an assignment that is fun and engaging.  They allow students to learn without just having to listen to a teacher talk the entire time.  Hyperdocs really can be a part of any classroom.  They are simple to make and simple to use, making them a great addition to the learning environment.  They can be a part of learning, doing assignments, and even reviewing for tests.
