This week I watched No Translation Needed by StarMedia Russian TV Series 1 Melodrama. Throughout the entire episode, there were always plants in the neighborhood scenes but city buildings and city life when they went to school and work. It was very similar to the United States with having to travel to a different city for work. The characters are a mother, father, and daughter, which is similar to most American TV shows. This family is struggling with money and you can see it is taking a toll on each of them, which is similar to some American TV shows. In one scene where the family ate breakfast, they were eating croissants, yogurt, eggs, cottage pie, and some other objects that I couldn’t quite recognize. Yogurt and eggs are common foods in the United States but croissants aren’t as popular. When they talk on the phone or in general, it sounds very frantic and angry, even though they aren’t saying anything angry or frantic. The weather was very sunny throughout the whole episode. I didn’t see too much of the sky but you could tell by the shadows of the crowds it was sunny and not overcast. The family travels by using a Taxi and mainly running/walking. The daughter takes a Taxi to school and the mother takes the Taxi all around town to do errands and get to work. Most of the time, she is running around everywhere. The school classroom environment is very neutral. There are lots of greens, yellows, and beige colors seen throughout the entire episode. There was really no “fun” that happened. It was a sad story about the mother always working or trying to pay the bills. They value money. They are struggling to pay the mortgage and are having a hard time getting paid on time. There is a delay in their pay which is different than the US. Normally, pay is salary or hourly with weekly or biweekly payments. I have never seen or heard of anyone receiving a paycheck late or delayed. The background of some scenes portrayed a barricade of trees. I could see the sky on the top half but the bottom was all trees or buildings. There are lots of streets for driving and buildings in the city. There are parks and areas to walk through. There was no mention of politics and money seemed to be a struggle throughout the video.
