Microsoft Translator

After reading Chapter 2 of our textbook, I learned about Microsoft Translator. This tool is a way for diverse school communities to communicate without the difficulty of finding interpreters for those whose native language is not English. Translator is free, easy to use, and accessible through any mobile device. There are more than one hundred languages programmed onto Translator which appeals to the many languages that people speak. This software can make an impact in schools because interpreters are not always readily available. Teachers can use Translator if they have some students in their class that speak a different language. It allows them to connect to the students even though they may not speak the same language and promotes communication without any student falling behind just because of a language barrier.

Personally, in my previous fieldwork placement, there was a student who only spoke Spanish and the teacher could only communicate a few words which left her frustrated. She wanted to communicate effectively to all of her students so I believe that Translator would come in handy for situations like that. If more people become educated about Translator, they can implement the software in their classrooms and bridge the gap between the different languages we speak.

Students can learn different languages and speak to their friends in the classroom as well. Translator is not just for teachers. It is for parents, students, administrators, and the list goes on!
