WE Virtual Learning Center on Well-Being~By:Emily Faragher

As someone going to college for a bachelor’s in psychology with a concentration in elementary education, I believe it is important to teach students about mental health and ways to cope at an early age. I looked at the “WE Well-being Grades K-3” pdf and was inspired by the way they approached this topic. They recommend talking about the definition of well-being and asking students about how they handle situations when they are feeling stressed. Talk about different emotions and what well-being looks and feels like. Ask the students to use art to show what well-being looks like for them. There are even many children’s books to choose from that touch on resilience, mindfulness, empathy, and compassion. Finally, there’s activities that could be introduced to help with stress, such as deep breathing, taking walks, going into nature, different art projects, and communicating with others about feelings. I would be interested in using these activities for a lesson in my future classroom.

The focus of this lesson.
