WE Learning Center: Bullying

The resource I chose to explore from the WE Learning Center is the WE Teachers Bullying Module. In this module, it has three main sections, Understanding the Issue, Identifying and Preventing Bullying, and Learning About Bullying in the Classroom.

In the first section of the module, it introduces bullying and provides facts and statistics to explain why this is an issue and how it impacts others. This section also explains the different types of bullying such as cyberbullying, sexual harassment, discriminatory bullying, and gang bullying. It also goes into detail about the different roles in a bullying situation such as the perpetrator, victim, bystander, and more.

Information from section one

Section two of this module provides insight on how to prevent bullying and how to intervene in any given situation. This section provides useful tips how to intervene without making the situation worse. This sections is especially beneficial because it gives advice to all parties, such as student-on-student, student-on-teacher, teacher-on-student, or teacher-on-teacher bullying. It also gives advice to actual bullies tips on how to effectively change their ways.

Here are some of the tips section two provides

The final sections provides the reader with worksheets and activities to give students in order to check their full understanding of bullying. These included true/false questions, short answer, checklists, group activities, and more.

Here are two examples of activities for students to complete.

After reviewing this module, I am certain that this would be something beneficial to use in the classroom. Firstly, bullying has been a problem in schools for decades, so it is always important to educate the students on what exactly it is and an action plan. What I like about this module is that it provides more information than the usual bullying lesson. It explains all parties that can be involved, different types of bullying, how not to intervene and why, gives advice to more parties in these situations, and so much more. I also love how the module attaches activities to go along with the lesson that will peak students interest. This is a lesson that I would definitely implement in my classroom as should other teachers!
