Love for Rent: Episode 1(Turkish Series)

This episode is set in Turkey and the setting is a city environment. People travel by walking and public transportation. There are also many cars on the road and the wealthier people in this episode travel by car. The weather seemed warm by the way people were dressed in shorts and skirts. Just like in America, there was definitely a distinction between classes of people, the wealthy and non wealthy. Most people were dressed well. They wore bold colors and the females were very made up with a lot of makeup. There was some casual wear worn by the waitress and it was ripped jeans, a t-shirt, and a flannel. Her outfit is something that you would see in America in someone casually dressed. The food seemed very fresh. Most of the food seemed the same to me. People ate fruit and ordered salad. They drank tea, coffee, and soda. The waitress brought over a bowl of risotto for lunch which was a little different than I am used to. The bosses in this episode were all male and they were strict with their female employees who worked for them as servers and secretaries. The waitress was fired after the customer came in and forced her to kiss him. She slapped him and obviously did not consent to this but her boss fired her for “kissing the customers”. In America, I would think that most bosses would protect their employees if they saw this happen. The grandparents in this episode wanted their grandchildren to settle down and get married  and have children. This seems to be a common value with grandparents in America. The wealthy Aunt and Uncle do not treat their staff very well and are scolded by their father. This is something that they explained was necessary to keep their staff obedient. When they are setting up their nephew with a woman they say that she has been “well studied in America” so it appears that America is well respected. The waitresses brother gets beat up and taken away because he owes money to the “mafia”. The mafia does not have as much of a presence in America as it has in the past. I am not sure how prevalent the mafia is in Turkey but this episode makes it appear as if it is a common thing there.
