Lost Years

By Alex Sellitsch

The show I decided to watch on YouTube was called “Lost Years”, a Turkish Soap Opera. The scenery in this episode was beautiful, and had a lot of similarities and differences to our own landmarks here in America. First, there were two characters walking along the beach. It seemed to resemble the beaches local to New Jersey, with gulls sandy beaches and similar coastal structures like docks. On the other hand, there were a few scenes that took place in the cities within Turkey, and the landmarks were vastly different from the ones here we are used to. The architecture in Turkey is much older than ours, and has a much more dense populations in areas. The furniture in the houses are much more ornate and very artsy. The Soap Opera that are done in American aren’t shot on nearly as artistic sets as the ones in Turkey. The characters in this show wear similar clothes to the upper middle class in America, with a lot of gold and silver jewelry. As the episode progressed there were a few times where I had to rewind for a second. The translation from Turkish to English either isn’t as smooth, or their lingo wasn’t being picked up on subtitles.

  1. I like how you talked about the differences in the Turkish and American film industry. I thought it was interesting that the architecture in Turkey was older and that their furniture and designs were more artsy and elegant.
