When looking at the many different resources on the PACIE Global Educator Toolkit, there was one that I saw and immediately knew I want to implement that into my future classroom. This resource is the Center for the Study of Multicultural Childrens’ Literature, or CSMCL. Their mission is to provide students, teachers, parents, librarians and anyone else access to multicultural literature for children.
CSMCL’s primary objectives are ”a) to foster an interest in multicultural children’s literature for young people; b) to promote awareness of the Center for the Study of Multicultural Children’s Literature (CSMCL); and c) to generate excitement in the study of multicultural literature” (http://CSMCL.org).
For me, I plan to use this in my classroom for basically the exact same reasons. As a child, story time was always my favorite. I think books are a great way to add more knowledge to a lesson and props and great acting skills are a great way to spruce it up and keep the kids extra engaged and excited 🙂 A great idea is also to send home a letter to parents providing information and a link to CSMCL.org to spread the knowledge to them as well, taking the fun home too!
