A New Global Tech Readiness Index

I found an article dealing with global collaboration, and in this article it talks about what might a new global edtech readiness index look like. In this article they touched on ways in which we can help with digital learning.

The first point they touch on is having a digital infrastructure for education. It talks about connectivity and devices, and how much some teachers rely on devices in the classroom and that to access devices we need internet. I think that having devices in the classroom is good and leads to more opportunities, however, teachers can not only rely on them and should still have handout assignment and hands-on activities readily available.

The next point they make is digital teaching and learning resources, which goes off of what i previously mentioned, and they talk about digital learning materials and online assessments. They say, “when it comes to technology use in education, it’s ‘about the content, and not the container’, then considerations of digital teaching and learning materials potentially makes sense within an edtech readiness index.”

Finally, they speak on digital skills, competencies and literacies for teachers and say, “the digital divide in education goes beyond the issue of access to technology. A second digital divide separates those with the competencies and skills to benefit from computer use from those without.” I would agree with this quote because in most schools nowadays there are two different generations of teachers, one generation born with technology already in their lives and ones that have just recently learned how to use the newer technology. For the teachers who already know there way around technology, they are at an advantage and can do many more things in their classroom that the teachers who may not have the technology skills don’t have. To solve this issue their should be an informational meeting with all the teachers before the school year, going over the ways in which they can use technology. in their classroom and how they can involve their lesson plans into it. \
