Q&A: Adam Welcome on How K–12 Educators Can Integrate Technology for Engagement
Hi! Welcome to my blog. This is my very first time blogging…so here we go….
I found this article I found fascinating. It is an interview by Eli Zimmerman who is talking to Adam Welcome on ways to integrate more technology into our classrooms.
The article interested me because when I was in school we had a computer class. In said class; we only learned to type, no real skills for engagement in the classroom. In the years since I left high school, raised my family, and then returned to college so much has changed. There are so many fun and interesting ways to get our students engaged in the classroom through technology. There should not be a specific “computer class time” anymore. We should have fully integrated classrooms. Here is the article, if you are interested in reading it.

The thing about this article that caught my eye was the word “engagement”. It is so important to keep our students engaged in the learning process. If our students are not engaged in the learning process, they will not retain the information.
Adam Welcome says that it is not so important to have a technology degree or even a fancy class to learn the technology. We, as educators, should just go with it and learn along side of our students. I like the saying, be the students guide on the side instead of the sage on the stage. Educators have to realize they are not the be all end all when it comes to teaching. We have to understand and acknowledge that we can learn from our students.
In the article, he says we are using technology as a replacement for what we used to do. Meaning, we are giving tests on the computers now instead of using paper and pencil. That is not a great use of technology, there are so many other ways to integrate it into our classrooms.
I do agree with this article because to keep our students engaged in the classroom is the way to teach them. Retention is key to learning and if the student is actively engaged in the learning process, the student is more likely to retain the information.
This is a video I found about integrating technology in our classrooms.
