Beware of Loan Forgiveness Scams

Have you recently seen advertisements for loan forgiveness on Facebook or another social media platform? Stockton University students should be aware of a college loan forgiveness scam that has targeted college campuses throughout the country.

Here is an example of a loan forgiveness scam:

Even if these look legitimate, you should always contact your lender or loan servicer if you are interested learning about in loan forgiveness.

The Department of Education sponsors the PSLF Program, which forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time for a qualifying employer. To learn more about the PSLF Program, visit studentaid.ed.gov.

Always be cautious when you see correspondence from anyone other than your lender or loan servicer and make sure you know the information you are reviewing is legitimate before taking any action.

Remember, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
