What I keep in my toolbox
No, not my literal toolbox. There are certain digital tools that I use to help me create lesson plans and to collaborate with other educators. One tool that I would like to highlight specifically is Edmodo. After using it in my Middle School and High School, I have been inspired to carry on the legacy and use it for my own classes. When Tech Becomes the Enemy: Getting Fired Because of Technology
Although technology can seem like a fantastic invention, its formation has brought with it new opportunities to catch someone doing something wrong, and therefore must be treated as a dangerous tool. Social Media acts as an insight into thoughts that may have otherwise never been known. For example, a teacher in Texas was recently fired for utilizing Twitter to report illegal students. In this case, I would say that firing her was a fair move, considering she was a racist. But, it is also true that technology was what prompted her termination. Without it, she may not have felt as
‘Software never has a day off sick’: fears teachers could be replaced by robots
What do we as educators do when it seems we could be replaced by robots? We invest in human interaction and the qualities that no robot could ever replicate. I often think of technology as the opposite of a blessing in disguise; it is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. While not completely against it, I have found that an increase in technology leads to an increase in capitalistic competition in the classroom, commercialization that has no place in an educational setting.
