The Ultimate Collaboration Tools

As you see in the title today, we will be discussing collaboration tools. As an educator, you are required to cooperate with your students, co-workers, and higher management. Sometimes trying to discuss a lesson, getting a message to someone, and keeping track of students’ paperwork can be stressful when you don’t have the required tools. However, this problem is eliminated by Microsoft technology. They have stepped in and created some fantastic tools that we are using today. Watch this video down below to see how beneficial collaboration tools are for teachers.

One Note- in the video, they mention how much they can do through One Note, such as bringing their text into one note or allowing students to create text in one note collaboratively or individually. This tool allows teachers to contain lessons, student’s work, and other information throughout the year. As in the video, Teachers could use the app on the cordless pad, and whatever information is drawn on their pad would appear on the projector for everyone to see. Students were also given access to draw on the tool and go back to see previous work. Since teachers are given access to everyone’s work through these tools. This saves them time, and paper which is always a plus. Students have a higher rate of completing and handing in their work.

In all, collaborative tools are useful if you are in any profession. They help us understand each other’s messages and work. Under the circumstance that the world is in with COVID, this has been our way of communicating and learning. Most of us have had and still have to take virtual classes; therefore, we are all getting to know how to work each and every tool. There are other tools besides one note, such as PowerPoint, OneDrive, Teams, Flipgrid, word, and much more. The great thing is that they all have different features that can help us work collaboratively.

Thank you everyone for your time and attention. I hope everyone enjoyed the information and video as much as I did.

4 Ways to Incorporate Culture in World Language Instruction

Hello everyone, and welcome to my 1st response post. This post will be a response to an article I came across on twitter called “4 ways to Incorporate Culture in World Language Instruction.” Go read the article here!

As I was scrolling through my Twitter, my eyes caught a glimpse of the words “culture” and “Language,” which piqued my interest. Seeking to learn more, I clicked on the article and learned about the four ways to incorporate culture in a world language. Here I will share the 4 tips given on how to integrate culture in a world language class.

Do Your Research!
This first step in the article explains that as an educator of world language you should make your self extremely comfortable, and familiar with the culture associated with the target language before teaching students.

~ Avoiding: Stereotypes, and blank statements about culture and ethnic groups.

Ways to getting familiar with the culture associated with the targeted language might include traveling to communities in which the targeted language is spoken, having guest speakers in classrooms, getting the perspectives of individuals of the cultural heritage that you are teaching, or finding information through sources such as news outlets, and literature.

Brainstorm Cultural Connections Using Themes

The second step of the article talks about getting creative by switching planned lessons and vocabulary words to themes with cultural points. This is to create a drive in the student’s interest and engagement. Educators will be able to keep track of knowledge gained. Also, maintaing goals for the students which are to have a better understanding of the daily lives of the people who speak the targeted language.

Compile Authentic Resources

Part three mainly discusses finding resources to support cultural connections with many examples, such as video clips, images, articles from the target language community, or country. Also, educators have access to YouTube or visiting countries’ tourism websites, which is all beneficial to finding great resources.

Make Cultural Comparisons

Lastly, this article outlines the importance of having students evaluating their own cultural norms and traditions.

~Comparisons- It is recommended to have the students compare backgrounds of the cultures associated with the targeted language and their own.

Will You Use This As A Lesson Plan For Your Own Classroom?

If I were to choose to be a language world teacher, this would definitely be a lesson plan. These tips are resourceful and would bring new perceptions into the class. I believe incorporating these tips into my daily lesson to build a strong foundation for the students. Educating them on culture with the associated targeted language will length their knowledge and create an open-minded environment.
